Cruise Port Logistics Guide

Dubrovnik Cruise Port

Gateway for Dubrovnik, Croatia

Choose the correct Dubrovnik route from Gruž or the tender landing, with Old Town stops, payment, airport directions and return included.

Dubrovnik transport at a glance

Most cruise calls use Gruž. Confirm the call type first: a tender into the Old City is a different journey.

Dubrovnik’s walled Old Town and historic harbor beside the Adriatic Sea

Confirm Gruž or an Old City tender

Gruž: the normal cruise/turnaround harbour west of the Old Town, beside the ferry port and Dubrovnik Main Bus Station. Follow the controlled route to the public exit and save its location.

Tender call: if ship instructions say tender, use the landing point given that day. Do not travel back to Gruž merely because a generic cruise map labels it.

The Old Town itself is pedestrian-only. Road transport uses a gate-side stop—normally Pile for Gruž city buses or Ploče for the inbound airport shuttle.

Getting There

Gruž to Old Town

Libertas bus

  1. From the public cruise exit, walk to Luka Gruž 4, the stop used by route 1A toward Pile; allow roughly 300–700 m/5–10 minutes depending on the berth exit and confirm the stop name in the live planner.
  2. Board route 1A with Pile on the display. The official timetable names the line Mokošica–Pile; live service information controls on the day.
  3. Alight at Pile, outside the western gate. Walk about 200–400 m/3–7 minutes through Pile Gate to Stradun.

Plan roughly 20–35 minutes total including the terminal walk, a normal wait and a 10–20 minute traffic-dependent ride. Summer queues can add more.

Payment

The official Libertas fare table checked 8 September 2026 lists a €1.73 one-hour ticket, valid for one hour after first validation, and €2.50 for one ride bought onboard. Buy the one-hour ticket before boarding at an official point/app where offered, or buy the onboard ticket from the driver; validate and retain it as instructed.

Getting There

Taxi or app to the walls

Use the signed public pickup and set Pile Gate as the practical western Old Town destination. No vehicle enters Stradun. A road ride is often 10–25 minutes, but summer congestion can be longer. Confirm the meter basis or app quote before departure; no reliable fixed Gruž–Pile tariff was found.

For the return, set the exact Gruž cruise exit/terminal—not simply “Dubrovnik port.” If crowds close Pile pickup space, follow the app or police signs to the assigned legal pickup.

Your Situation

Dubrovnik Airport in both directions

Airport → cruise port

  1. Outside Arrivals, find the white Shuttle bus sign and Platanus vehicle.
  2. Buy online/mobile or at the airport Arrivals counter. The fare checked 8 September 2026 is €10 one way; the ticket is valid for any airport departure that day.
  3. The bus stops first at Ploče Gate, then finishes at Dubrovnik Main Bus Station in Gruž. Stay aboard to Gruž for a cruise transfer.
  4. From the bus station, walk about 500 m toward the ferry/cruise area and follow the saved terminal signs; the exact gangway may be farther.

The operator states about 35 minutes riding airport–Gruž in normal traffic. Allow 50–70 minutes total for flight-linked waiting, the ride and the final port walk; congestion and terminal processing are extra.

Ending your cruise: Gruž → airport

  1. Walk from the public cruise exit to Dubrovnik Main Bus Station.
  2. Board the Platanus airport shuttle at platform 8, near the main station entrance, on a published city departure. Arrive at least 10 minutes early.
  3. The bus continues via Grawe and the Cable Car stop to Dubrovnik Airport; remain aboard to the final airport stop.

Buy online or at Gruž station during departures. Select a scheduled bus that preserves airline check-in/security time; do not assume the airport’s arrival-linked pattern applies outbound.

Port Day

Old Town return to ship

  1. At Pile 2, board route 1A with Mokošica on the display.
  2. Alight at Luka Gruž 1, then walk back to the exact saved cruise entrance and allow security/gangway time.
  3. Confirm both stop names in the live planner before boarding and leave Pile early: traffic and full buses can materially extend the normal 20–35 minute total.

For a tender call, follow the ship’s tender schedule and return to the announced landing instead of Gruž.

Accessibility

Luggage and mobility

  • With two suitcases, use a taxi/app from the legal public pickup or the airport shuttle to Gruž; local buses can be crowded.
  • Pile is outside the walls. Inside, stone paving, slopes and many stair routes remain.
  • The airport shuttle has luggage space, but no continuous step-free ship-to-bus route was verified.
  • Ask the cruise line about gangway assistance and tender accessibility.

What to Confirm

What to recheck

  • Gruž berth versus tender landing and the day’s controlled exit.
  • Libertas route, stop and fare on the official live page.
  • Platanus departure time and road congestion; outbound buses follow a timetable.
  • Taxi fares and exact gangway distances are live variables, not fixed claims here.
