Cruise Port Logistics Guide

Split Cruise Port

Gateway for Split, Croatia

Plan from Split’s actual public cruise exit, with Old Town walking, the current airport shuttle and a realistic return margin.

Split transport at a glance

Split’s City Port is central, but the walk begins only after the controlled outer-berth or tender exit.

Split waterfront, harbor and city buildings beside the Adriatic Sea

Start with the actual Split berth

Cruise ships use Split’s central City Port, but the passenger path differs:

Do not start a city map from the ship icon offshore. Begin only at the signed public exit, and save that same point for the return. Port works and ferry traffic can alter pedestrian routing.

Getting There

Public exit to Riva and Old Town

Walk

From the landside ferry/main-bus-station area, follow the waterfront west past the harbour buildings to the Riva, then enter Diocletian’s Palace through the Brass Gate by the cellars. Plan roughly 400–700 m/5–10 min from landside reference points. From an outer-breakwater public exit, plan about 0.8–1.2 km/10–18 min. These are mapped ranges because the exact controlled exit varies.

The route is broadly level, but ferry ramps, kerbs, crowds and polished historic stone can be awkward. The official visitor guide confirms the Riva links the ferry terminal to the historic waterfront.

Taxi/app

For a short central journey, walking can be faster in peak congestion. With bags, use the signed public taxi area or the app’s assigned pin; confirm the live quote. No trustworthy fixed port–centre fare was found, so no invented price is published.

Your Situation

Split Airport shuttle

Airport → port/city

  1. Exit Arrivals and find the Platanus bus in Parking Zone P1, directly outside the Arrivals exit. Split Airport describes this generally as its north-side bus parking; follow the Platanus/P1 signs on site.
  2. Take the direct shuttle to Split Main Bus Station, beside the ferry-port landside area.
  3. From the bus station, walk about 400–700 m/5–10 min to the Riva/Brass Gate, or follow the saved port route to your cruise entrance. An outer berth adds its controlled-pier segment.

Fare and time checked 8 September 2026: €10 one way or €15 return, with about 30 minutes riding in normal traffic. Airport departures follow flight arrivals, roughly 30 minutes after each arrival. Platanus currently contradicts itself on return validity—15 days in its ticket summary and indefinite in its FAQ—so confirm the validity shown during purchase.

Buy online for a mobile QR ticket or at the booth/stand outside the bus, where cash and cards are accepted. Tickets cannot be bought from the driver. A same-day one-way airport ticket is valid for any airport departure that day.

Ending your cruise: port → airport

  1. From the signed public cruise exit, follow the waterfront/port signs to Split Main Bus Station.
  2. At the bus station, board the clearly marked Platanus shuttle on platform 1, directly beside the main station entrance. Buy online beforehand or at the ticket office inside the station—not from the driver.
  3. Ride direct toward Split Airport (SPU) and alight beside the airport’s main entrance.

City-to-airport departures use the published timetable and take about 30 minutes in normal traffic. Summer congestion can add substantially, so choose a departure that preserves the operator/airline check-in margin.

Other airport choices and payment

Public bus

Promet Split local buses serve the airport area and sell tickets in the Promet app or on board. Line and stop patterns can change, and the slower local route does not finish beside the cruise entrance, so use the live operator map rather than an old line-37 instruction. The post–1 June 2026 zone fare must be calculated for the chosen stop in the official app/pricelist.

Taxi/app

The airport taxi rank is near the terminal. For Uber/Bolt or a taxi, enter the actual Split port/public-exit destination and use the assigned pickup. The 20 km road trip often takes 30–45 minutes but summer congestion can add substantially. No authoritative fixed fare was found; the posted meter tariff or live quote is the honest price gap.

Port Day

Short visit and return to ship

  1. Save the photographed public exit/landing point, berth instructions and all-aboard time.
  2. Use the Riva and Brass Gate as the first Old Town anchors; do not begin from a generic “Split port” pin.
  3. On return, follow the waterfront east to the ferry/port area, then the exact signed route to your outer berth, landside terminal or tender.
  4. Allow extra time for ferry queues, cruise security, summer crowds and the full pier walk. The cruise line’s all-aboard time controls.

A 5–10 minute city walk can become 15–25 minutes to the ship when an outer-pier segment and security are included.

Accessibility

Luggage and mobility

  • Two suitcases: the airport shuttle ends conveniently beside the port, but it may still leave a long outer-pier walk; use a taxi only to an authorized public pickup/drop-off.
  • Central waterfront walking is broadly level, but ramps, kerbs, crowds and uneven/polished stone matter.
  • No continuous step-free route from every gangway was verified. Ask the cruise line about gangway assistance and the day’s controlled route.
  • For a taxi, specify the mobility aid and whether a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is required.

What to Confirm

What to recheck

  • Exact berth, tender status and public-exit point.
  • The Platanus shuttle schedule and road conditions; the operator changed in 2026, so older Pleso instructions are stale.
  • Local Promet line/zone fare if choosing the slower public bus.
  • No official fixed airport taxi price or exact gangway-to-Riva distance was available.
