Venice separates the ship’s berth from passenger processing. For a Marghera ship, VTP directs embarking passengers to the assigned Marittima terminal first, then provides the dedicated ship transfer.

At the Terminal
The processing location controls the journey
For a ship docked at Marghera, VTP instructs embarking passengers to report to the assigned terminal at Marittima, Venice. After check-in, a dedicated free shuttle takes passengers to the ship. Do not independently enter the industrial Marghera berth.
If documents name Fusina, San Basilio, Marittima or Chioggia, VTP says processing is carried out directly at that dedicated facility. A generic “Venice port” pin is therefore unsafe. Save the terminal name, address and cruise-line transfer instructions offline.
Transit-call disembarkation can use a ship-specific coach or water transfer. VTP’s embarkation rule does not establish the landing point for every port call; follow the onboard notice before planning the public segment.
Getting There
People Mover: Marittima, Piazzale Roma and the city
The People Mover runs Tronchetto ↔ Marittima ↔ Piazzale Roma. A single one-direction ride costs €1.50; buy at a station machine or in the AVM app and validate/tap as instructed. AVM publishes about four minutes end-to-end and roughly 10-minute frequency; allow extra time to reach the assigned terminal.
- Marittima → city/rail: board toward Piazzale Roma and alight there.
- City → Marittima: board at Piazzale Roma toward Tronchetto and alight at Marittima; then follow the assigned-terminal signs.
- Santa Lucia station: Piazzale Roma is across the Constitution Bridge. The principal pedestrian deck has many steps, so the roughly 600 m station–Piazzale Roma connection is not a low-effort suitcase route.
People Mover reaches the Marittima area, not a guaranteed terminal door and not the Marghera ship. Ask VTP/cruise staff about the final internal transfer.

The ACTV airport ticket is €10 single or €18 return; each journey permits 75 minutes on the mainland bus/tram network. Ordinary city tickets do not include Marco Polo Airport unless the airport product is loaded. Add the €1.50 People Mover single. Allow 45–75 minutes airport–Marittima including the published roughly 20–25-minute bus ride, a normal wait, the transfer and terminal walking; check-in/security is extra.

Port Day
A city visit without confusing the ship location
From a Marittima landing/processing point, take People Mover to Piazzale Roma. For a low-navigation city sampler, board ACTV water bus line 1 toward Lido S.M.E. and alight at Rialto or S. Marco–Vallaresso as shown by the current timetable. Return on line 1 toward P.le Roma, then take People Mover toward Tronchetto and alight Marittima.
The current contactless standard waterborne fare is €9.50 for 75 minutes. A €1.50 road/People Mover ticket is not a water-bus ticket. Validate before boarding and use the same payment medium. Crowding, bridges and boat steps make luggage difficult; leave bags through the cruise line or an official facility rather than hauling them through Venice.

Your Situation
Arriving by train and beginning a cruise
From Venezia Santa Lucia, cross the Constitution Bridge to Piazzale Roma, then use People Mover toward Tronchetto and alight Marittima. Allow roughly 25–45 minutes station-to-processing for the bridge, a normal People Mover wait and terminal walk. This is a planning range, not a continuously step-free promise.
With two suitcases or limited mobility, use the accessible assistance described by the railway/cruise operator or arrange a licensed transfer to the exact processing terminal. A water taxi quote is per boat and landing-specific; confirm whether porterage and the final terminal access are included.
For a ship at Marghera, the public journey still ends at Marittima processing; VTP’s dedicated transfer completes the controlled ship leg.
Important
Fusina and other exceptions
Fusina is not a synonym for Marghera. VTP’s current FAQ says that when a sailing is assigned to Fusina, processing takes place directly at its dedicated facility. Use the exact address and transfer instructions in the cruise documents; do not first travel to Marittima unless the cruise line explicitly says so.
The same rule applies to San Basilio and Chioggia. Generic People Mover or airport directions in this guide are for Marittima processing and cannot be transplanted to those facilities.

- City → Marittima: reach Piazzale Roma, take People Mover toward Tronchetto, alight Marittima, then follow the assigned terminal/transfer instructions.
- Airport → Marittima: ACTV 5 toward Venezia to Piazzale Roma, then People Mover.
- Marghera ship: do not attempt an independent industrial-port return; use the cruise operator’s controlled transfer.
The Constitution Bridge, water-bus boarding, crowded platforms and internal cruise transfer create separate accessibility questions. VTP offers PRM services within its facilities, but that does not certify the complete station/airport-to-ship chain. Request assistance before travel and confirm luggage handoff at the processing terminal.
