Identify the terminal before routing

Match the terminal on the port/cruise notice and save the public exit. Generic “Lisbon cruise port” directions can silently choose the wrong facility.

Getting There

Main terminal: Baixa and Alfama

Level waterfront option

From Jardim do Tabaco/Lisbon Cruise Terminal, follow Avenida Infante Dom Henrique west. Praça do Comércio is roughly 1.2–1.6 km/15–22 minutes, depending on the public exit. The route is broadly level and continues into Baixa.

Alfama uphill option

Alfama begins immediately behind the terminal, but narrow cobbled streets, steep grades and stairs make a short map distance strenuous. Walk 10–20 minutes to a chosen landmark only if mobility permits; for São Jorge Castle use a taxi/app or official transit to a legal drop-off, then expect some walking.

Santa Apolónia rail/Metro station is about 500–900 m/7–12 minutes east of the main terminal exit. Bus 728 also follows the waterfront, but walking is often simplest for Baixa when conditions suit.

Rocha Conde de Óbidos routes

Bus 728 to the centre

  1. From the Rocha public exit, walk to the live planner’s nearby Cais Rocha (Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga) stop; allow about 400–800 m/6–12 minutes because the berth exit varies.
  2. Board 728 toward Portela (eastbound).
  3. For Baixa, alight at Praça do Comércio. Carris lists Cais Rocha → Santos → Cais do Sodré → Corpo Santo → Praça do Comércio in that order.

Allow about 25–45 minutes total for the terminal walk, normal wait and traffic-dependent ride. Buy/validate a Carris ticket using a Navegante card/app or accepted onboard method; confirm the current fare before boarding.

Your Situation

Lisbon Airport in both directions

Airport → main cruise terminal

  1. At Aeroporto Metro, take the Red Line toward São Sebastião.
  2. Change at São Sebastião to the Blue Line toward Santa Apolónia.
  3. Alight at the final Santa Apolónia station, then walk roughly 500–900 m/7–12 minutes west to the signed Jardim do Tabaco cruise entrance.

Plan about 45–65 minutes total including ticketing, transfer, normal waiting and the terminal walk.

Airport → Rocha

With luggage, a licensed taxi/app is usually the practical choice. For public transport, use the Red Line from Aeroporto to Alameda, change to the Green Line toward Cais do Sodré, then use the live Carris planner for bus 728 toward Restelo to Cais Rocha and walk to the saved terminal exit. Allow roughly 60–90 minutes total and recheck the interchange.

Ending your cruise

Main terminal: walk to Santa Apolónia; take Blue Line toward Reboleira to São Sebastião, then Red Line toward Aeroporto and alight at the final airport station. Rocha: reverse 728 toward Portela to Cais do Sodré, then Green toward Telheiras to Alameda and Red toward Aeroporto—or take a taxi/app to reduce handling.

Lisbon Airport reports a typical licensed taxi to/from the city centre at €10–15 including luggage, traffic-dependent; Rocha may price differently. Ensure the meter is on and request a receipt. App pickups at the airport use the designated P2, level 2 area.

Tickets and payment

  • 2026 Carris/Metro single: €1.90 loaded before travel on a €0.50 reusable Navegante occasional card; valid for one hour under the ticket conditions.
  • Bus onboard: €2.30 for one Carris bus ride. Buy/validate as directed.
  • Metro contactless bank card: €1.92 per ride; remove one card/device from your wallet and use that same one at entry and exit. Each traveller needs a separate card/device.
  • A bank-card Metro tap does not automatically prove a valid Carris transfer. Use the €1.90 Carris/Metro product when a combined journey is intended.
  • Taxis are metered. Use the official rank or assigned app pickup, confirm the destination terminal and request a receipt.

Port Day

Return-to-ship checklist

  1. Save Jardim do Tabaco/Santa Apolónia or Rocha Conde de Óbidos—not just “Lisbon port.”
  2. Main terminal: return along the level waterfront from Praça do Comércio, or alight at Alfândega/Terminal Cruzeiros or Santa Apolónia only when the live planner matches your exit.
  3. Rocha: take 728 toward Restelo to Cais Rocha, then walk to the exact saved entrance.
  4. Allow for hills from Alfama, traffic, transit waiting, the terminal walk, security and cruise-line all-aboard time.

What to Confirm

Mobility and what to recheck

  • Confirm the exact terminal and public exit; the central and Rocha routes are not interchangeable.
  • The waterfront is the lower-effort central route. Alfama’s cobbles, slopes and stairs are a separate burden.
  • Recheck Metro/Carris fares and service changes in the official planners.
  • Taxi €10–15 is the airport’s city-centre planning range, not a fixed cruise-terminal fare.
  • No continuous step-free gangway-to-transit route was verified; arrange cruise-line assistance if needed.
