Ostseekai: city-centre walking
Ostseekai 1, 24105 Kiel is the principal city-centre cruise complex (berths 27/28). The port publishes 300 m to the city centre and about 10–15 minutes on foot to/from Kiel Hbf.
- Leave by the signed pedestrian exit and save the terminal/berth.
- For the centre, follow signs toward the pedestrian zone/Alter Markt. For rail and coaches, walk south past Schwedenkai toward Kiel Hauptbahnhof/ZOB.
- For return, retrace the saved route to Ostseekai—not merely “Kiel port”—and allow terminal security/gangway time.
Walking is free and generally the simplest city transfer. Cobblestones, bridge gradients and the terminal-to-ship route can add effort with luggage.
Getting There
Ostuferhafen: bus 11, not a city walk
The official cruise berth at Ostuferhafen is about 8 km from the city centre. The road-navigation reference is Grenzstraße, 24149 Kiel.
- Follow the marked port exit to Grenzstraße. Allow roughly 600–900 m/8–15 minutes; this is a mapped planning estimate because the ship gate can vary.
- Board KVG line 11 toward Wik, Kanal.
- Alight at Hauptbahnhof for rail/ZOB and central Kiel.
The September 2026 Kiel city single fare is €3. Allow 35–55 minutes total including port walking, a normal wait and the bus ride. For return, board line 11 at the Hbf stop shown by the live platform map toward Dietrichsdorf, alight at Grenzstraße and retrace the saved port route.

Norwegenkai and the ferry distinction
Norwegenkai, Zur Fähre, 24143 Kiel is the Color Line Oslo ferry terminal and only occasionally a small cruise berth. Do not assume your cruise uses it. The port publishes 300 m to the centre and only a few minutes on foot to the station via the pedestrian Hörnbrücke.
- Use the marked passenger exit and cross Hörnbrücke toward Kiel Hbf/ZOB.
- For return, cross the bridge toward Norwegenkai / Fähre Oslo and use the saved passenger entrance.
Schwedenkai is the Gothenburg ferry terminal, not the default cruise answer. A sailing notice naming Schwedenkai controls, but do not substitute it for Ostseekai or Norwegenkai.

Direct KIELIUS coach
The current March–October timetable runs between Kiel ZOB and Hamburg Airport in about 1 hour 35 minutes. At Kiel ZOB use platform C, Auguste-Viktoria-Straße. At the airport use the lower-level stop at Airport Plaza between the arrival terminals.
Adult one-way fare (March 2026): €26 online or €27 from the driver. Buy online at least one hour before travel; onboard cash, card, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted. KIELIUS does not accept the Deutschlandticket or SH-Tarif and has no seat reservation.
- Ostseekai/Norwegenkai → airport: walk to Kiel ZOB, then KIELIUS to Hamburg Airport. Allow 1 hour 55 minutes–2 hours 20 minutes total including terminal walk, normal coach wait and ride.
- Ostuferhafen → airport: line 11 from Grenzstraße to Hbf/ZOB, then KIELIUS. Allow 2 hours 20 minutes–3 hours total.
- Airport → ship: board KIELIUS at Airport Plaza to Kiel ZOB, then walk to Ostseekai/Norwegenkai or take line 11 toward Dietrichsdorf to Grenzstraße for Ostuferhafen.
These totals exclude airline check-in/security. Current construction/traffic can move a coach stop or delay the road journey.

Tickets, luggage and accessibility
- The 2026 Kiel city single is €3; it covers one journey toward the destination, permits transfers within its validity and does not permit a return/round trip.
- Buy in the NAH.SH app, at a machine/office, or from the bus driver. Most KVG buses now accept contactless girocard, Visa/Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay, but a few older buses remain cash-only—carry euro cash as a fallback.
- Ostseekai and Norwegenkai minimize vehicle transfers. Ostuferhafen adds a variable port walk and bus luggage handling; taxi is the lower-effort alternative.
- Published terminal gangways differ (fixed at Ostseekai/Norwegenkai, mobile at Ostuferhafen). Ask the cruise line for assistance; public-bus accessibility does not certify the port approach.

- Ostseekai: walk from city/Hbf to Ostseekai 1; the port publishes 10–15 minutes from the station.
- Norwegenkai: cross Hörnbrücke toward Fähre Oslo and use the exact saved passenger entrance.
- Ostuferhafen: line 11 from Hbf toward Dietrichsdorf, alight Grenzstraße, then follow the saved 8–15 minute approach. Leave a larger buffer with luggage.
