Piraeus transport at a glance
Piraeus has three cruise terminals. The free port shuttle only moves inside the port; it is not a bus to Athens.

Identify terminal A, B or C
Save the terminal, cruise exit and ship. Terminal A to Dimotiko Theatro is roughly 1.5 km/20–25 minutes on mapped public streets; B/C can be roughly 2.5–3 km/35–45 minutes, making a short taxi the practical Metro connector with luggage.
Getting There
Seasonal X80 to Athens
OASA relaunched X80 for the 2026 season on 23 May 2026. It links the Piraeus cruise exits with Acropolis and Syntagma in about 35 minutes riding. Recheck the current seasonal notice before relying on it.
- At terminal A/E11 use the signed Xaveriou / cruise exit X80 stop. On announced Terminal B/E12 operating days, OASA places the origin inside the port between the E12 entrance and Themistocles terminal, just after limousine parking.
- Board X80 toward Acropolis–Syntagma; alight at Acropolis or Syntagma.
- For return, use the separately marked X80 stop toward Piraeus and alight at the cruise exit that matches your ship.
X80 accepts the €4.10 24-hour ticket or €20 three-day tourist ticket, not the €1.20 90-minute ticket. The current announcement described about 30-minute peak intervals and departures from Xaveriou around 08:30–19:35; live telematics and the ship-day stop notice control.
Getting There
Year-round Metro to Athens
- Walk or take a licensed taxi from the terminal to Dimotiko Theatro Metro. Terminal A has the shortest mapped walk; from B/C a taxi usually avoids 35–45 minutes on foot.
- Take Line 3 toward Doukissis Plakentias / Airport.
- Alight at Monastiraki for the historic centre (published rail time about 22 minutes) or Syntagma (about 24 minutes).
The standard 90-minute ticket is €1.20 and excludes X80 and airport travel. Tap/validate as instructed. For return, take Line 3 toward Dimotiko Theatro, alight at the terminus, then use the saved terminal walk or taxi.

Athens Airport in both directions
Metro
From the cruise terminal, reach Dimotiko Theatro, then board a Line 3 train explicitly marked Airport; not every Line 3 train continues there. The published rail time is about 63 minutes and airport-branch trains are less frequent than core service. Fare: €9 one way or €16 airport return. Allow roughly 90–120 minutes total from terminal A or 100–135 minutes from B/C, including the terminal connector and a normal wait. Reverse at the airport: Line 3 toward Dimotiko Theatro, then walk/taxi to the correct terminal.
Airport express bus X96
X96 operates 24 hours between the airport and its Piraeus terminus/port rail area, not the cruise doors. Published ride time is about 90 minutes; add waiting and the taxi/walk to A/B/C for a planning total of roughly 110–150 minutes. Fare: €5.50. Tap a bank card or buy before boarding; drivers no longer sell tickets. At the airport, use the signed express-bus stop; in Piraeus confirm the X96 stop/direction in the official live information.
A direct licensed taxi is lowest handling but Piraeus is outside the airport’s fixed central-Athens tariff. Use the meter/current quote.

Port Day
Return to ship
- Use X80 only if the live seasonal service and your cruise-exit stop are confirmed; otherwise take Line 3 to Dimotiko Theatro.
- From Metro, walk only when the saved terminal route and mobility allow; from B/C or with luggage, use a licensed taxi to the exact terminal/exit.
- The free PPA shuttle can help only after reaching the port passenger area; do not treat it as an Athens connection.
- Allow for Athens traffic, transit waiting, the final port distance, security and all-aboard.

Mobility and what to recheck
- Exact A/E11 or B/C/E12 terminal and the current internal shuttle stop.
- X80 season, day-specific Terminal B arrangement, departures and correct return stop.
- Line 3 service alerts and an airport-bound train rather than a short-turn service.
- X96’s cruise-terminal last mile; it is not a ship-door bus.
- No fixed Piraeus–airport taxi fare is claimed. Ask the cruise line for gangway assistance when needed.
